The Kilroys

The Kilroys is a collective of LA- and NYC-based theater artists who are done talking about gender bias and are taking action. We mobilize others in our field by producing the List, an annual industry survey of excellent new plays by women, trans, and non-binary playwrights. It is a tool for producers committed to ending the systemic underrepresentation of such writers in the American theater.

Maestra

MAESTRA MUSIC, INC. was founded by composer/lyricist and music director Georgia Stitt to give support, visibility, and community to the women who make the music in the musical theater industry. Since women are under-represented in musical theater, our membership is made up of female-identifying composers, music directors, orchestrators, arrangers, copyists, rehearsal pianists and other musicians. The organization’s initiatives include monthly educational seminars, mentorship programs, technical skills workshops, networking events, and online resources and partnerships that aim to promote equality of opportunity and to address the many historical disadvantages and practices that have limited women composers and musicians in the musical theater.

Women of Color on Broadway

Women of Color on Broadway, Inc. envisions a community that centralizes both well-established, and upcoming female writers, producers, engineers, directors, musicians, and performers to create access to long-term mentorship, and job opportunities in theatre + musical theater. SPACE on Ryder Farm

SPACE on Ryder Farm is a nonprofit residency program and organic farm located on the grounds of a 224-year-old family homestead in Putnam County, New York, just an hour north of New York City. SPACE’s mission is to create an environment singular in its ability to invigorate artists and innovators and their work, and to contribute to the sustainability and resourceful preservation of one of the oldest organic family farms on the East Coast. SPACE’s Family Residency, founded in association with the Lilly Awards Foundation, provides artist parents (predominantly mothers) with a one-week residency that includes educational and creative programming for their children.

The Billie Burke Ziegfeld Award is a $10,000 cash grant along with a year of professional mentorship given annually to an emerging female composer.

The Fund for Women Writers at Playwrights Horizons
The Fund for Women Writers at Playwrights Horizons will directly address and support the needs of women playwrights, composers, and lyricists.  This $1 million fund will provide working capital for extraordinary production needs for works by women; support for commissions, new works development, childcare, residencies, and retreats; and will provide resources to launch a new writing group for mid-career, female-identifying writers. Our efforts will have an impact on the national community of women playwrights by addressing and confronting issues that are endemic to the theater field. The Hearth

The Hearth tells the stories of women. Estrogenius Festival

The EstroGenius Festival is the longest running festival celebrating the work of women and gender non-conforming artists in NYC.  Begun in Manhattan Theatre Source in 2000 as a short-play festival, the festival has launched and supported hundreds of artists of all mediums in its 19 years.
